    The department is responsible for Project Laboratory which is assigned to the student when choosing a specialization.

    If the student wishes to work on a topic of another department which takes part in the teaching of the chosen specialization, then he/she shall notify it at his/her assigned department.

    In some cases, the student may have the possibility to work on the topic of a department which does not take part in the teaching of the selected specialization for which he/she shall acquire the permission of the Director of the BSc English Program of the faculty. A precondition for acquiring such permission is a certification of his/her excellent scholastic record and professional work in the selected topic.

    The student shall register to Project Laboratory subject of the department which announced the selected topic.

    5. Required knowledge The subject is based on the knowledge of the topics taught by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics.

    7. Objectives, learning outcomes and obtained knowledge

    Students solve a complex engineering task thus producing a technical creation in which each student’s contribution can be separated. Consequently, students get acquainted with all essential phases of engineering work where they carry out some of the subtasks independently.

    Project Laboratory prepares students for BSc Thesis Project.

    8. Synopsis

    The topic of Project Laboratory can be chosen from among the topics of the department of the faculty (preferably belonging to the specialization and – if it exists – the branch selected by the student).

    The topic of a department, not teaching in the student’s specialization, is only acceptable if the student obtained the permission of the Director of the BSc English program of the faculty.

    A topic offered by another faculty, university or external company (economic organization) can only be accepted if one of the professionally relevant departments of the specialization supports it and provides a supervisor. The external supervisor, approved by the head of the department, can be an expert with a university or master (MSc) degree. When selecting the topic of Project Laboratory and preparing the documentation, students must make sure to avoid violating the interest of the company (economic organization) at the time of the review of student activity.

    During the first week of the study period (after the registration week), students register to one of the announced topics or groups of topics, agreeing on the task with the future supervisor. Before choosing the topic, it is recommended to visit the department during the preceding exam period.

    At the beginning of the semester, students prepare the announcement and the timing of the tasks with the supervisor. The specific formal requirements and the submission of the announcement are determined by the department announcing the subject.

    At the end of the semester, each student shall give an account of the completed work. The account consists of an oral and a written part. The formal requirements and schedule of the account are determined by the department responsible for the subject.

    It is possible to hand out project tasks of the same topic to two or more students, but only separately, designated to names, and only if the results of the work can be separated.  In the task announcement it must be specified which part is carried out by which student, either it is independent or group work.

    9. Method of instruction The student has to solve his/her task by the schedule in the announcement prepared together with the supervisor. If the student does not work at the department, then he/she shall regularly report to the supervisor about the progress of the work.

    The department has to provide the conditions necessary to the completion of work: organizing a consultation with the departmental or external expert as well as to make sure all special services and components are available.
    10. Assessment In the study period:

    The schedule of mid-term supervision:
    • The leading supervisor continuously supervises the schedule, the progress and the preparation of the student. If work is not carried out at the department, then he/she should regularly give an account to the departmental supervisor.
    • At the end of the semester at a given time, the student gives a short oral account of his/her completed work. The documentation of the technical work must be submitted by the end of the study period.
    Determining mid-term grades
    The mid-term subject grade is given by the consultants/supervisors of the educational committee which is based on the following factors:
    • professional value of the work;
    • the student’s attitude to work and the completion of work;
    • the result of the account;
    • the documentation of the work.
    Students fail if they
    • have neglected their work
    • did not submit the assignment
    • did not accomplish the work assigned for the semester by the end of the delayed completion period;
    • did not complete either the written or the oral part of the account.
    In the examination period:

    No requirements

    11. Recaps A written or oral account can be given by the end of the delayed completion period.
    12. Consultations Project Laboratory work is led by either the departmental or external supervisor. Besides an external supervisor, a departmental supervisor must be provided. The departmental supervisor is a full-time or part-time teacher, researcher, department engineer or Ph.D. candidate of the faculty. External supervisor, approved by the head of the department, is an external expert having a university or MSc degree. An external supervisor is only essential if the department did not announce the topic or there are no professionals who are related to the given topic.
    13. References, textbooks and resources Specialized, related literature necessary to elaborate the topic is provided by the leading supervisor, or the student is expected to collect and refer to the resources under the supervision of the leading supervisor.
