    8. Synopsis Protecting the integrity and confidentiality of data stored and communicated in modern infocommunication systems, as well as protecting those systems themselves against malicious attacks are very important requirements today. The commonly used tools for addressing the problem are based on cryptographic and network security mechanisms. The objective of this course is to give an introduction to these fields. The course covers the following topics: cryptographic algorithms (symmetric and asymmetric key ciphers, hash
    functions, digital sinatures), authentication and key establishment protocols, network security protocols (SSL, IPSec, WiFi security, etc.), access control principles, firewalls and intrusion detection systems, Denial-of-Service attacks, software security (buffer overflow attacks), malware, spam, botnets.
