    7. Objectives, learning outcomes and obtained knowledge

    To obtain the certificate, the student must prepare an MSc thesis which should prove that the candidate can do independent engineering work, he/she can apply engineering methods, he/she is capable of understanding the task, and to interpret and analyze the chosen solution.

    The program of the first semester is bibliography research and the preparation of the system plan while making progress pro-rata.

    8. Synopsis

    The topic of MSc thesis can be chosen from among the topics of the department of the faculty (preferably belonging to the main and secondary specialization selected by the student).

    The topic of a department, not teaching in the student’s main or secondary specialization, is only acceptable if the student has obtained the permission of the Director of the MSc English program of the faculty.

    A topic offered by another faculty, university or external company (economic organization) can only be accepted if the head of departments of the main or secondary specialization supports it and provides a supervisor. The external supervisor, approved by the head of the department, can be an expert with a university or master (MSc) degree. When selecting the topic of MSc Thesis and preparing the thesis itself, students must make sure to avoid violating the interest of the company (economic organization) so that his/her work can be reviewed. In some exceptional cases, leading companies or economic corporations in the line of research and development may announce confidential thesis topics. Students must be informed about the confidentiality of the topic.

    It is possible to assign the same thesis topic to two or more students, but only separately, designated to names, and only if the results of the work can be separated.  In the task announcement it must be specified which part is carried out by which student, either it is independent or group work. In the case of group work, subtasks can be encrypted. A thesis topic becomes confidential if at least one of the subtasks is confidential.

    In the case of a common topic, it must be marked which subtask was not written independently. In Diploma Thesis Design 2 there are no common topics assigned.

    9. Method of instruction Independent work with the help of a supervisor.
    10. Assessment During the study period: obtaining a mid-term grade

    The subject is completed if the student has done preparatory work and is ready for Diploma Thesis Design 2 subject.

    The schedule of mid-term supervision: The supervisor continuously keeps a record of the schedule, the progress of the work and the preparation of the student. If the student does not work at the department, he/she shall regularly report to the supervisor about the work.
    • The written report shall be submitted 5 workdays before the oral account. Its volume is about 30 pages.
    • At the end of the study period, the student shall give a 10-minute presentation about his/her work in a session at a prearranged time.
    • The written report shall be uploaded on the Thesis Portal of the faculty.
    Determining mid-term grades

    The mid-term subject grade is given by the supervisors of the educational committee (consisting of min. 3 members) which is based on the following factors:
    • professional value of the work;
    • the student’s attitude to work and the completion of work;
    • the result of the account;
    • the documentation of the work.
    Students fail if they
    • have neglected their work
    • did not accomplish the work assigned for the semester until the deadline of the account
    • did not complete either the written or the oral part of the account until the deadline
    11. Recaps The written account can be submitted until the end of the delayed completion period.
    12. Consultations The practice of thesis plan and the preparation of the thesis project is supervised by the department’s consultant or the external supervisor. Besides the external supervisor, a departmental consultant needs to be provided. The department’s consultant is a full-time or part-time instructor, researcher, teacher (magister, engineer teacher, technical teacher, economic teacher, practice instructor), department engineer or Ph.D. candidate of the faculty.

    The external consultant, approved by the head of the department, can be an external professional with university or master (MSc) degree. An external consultant is necessary if the topic was not announced by the department, or if no professionals are available at the department which is related to the topic.
    13. References, textbooks and resources Specialized, related literature necessary to elaborate on the topic is provided by the leading supervisor, or the student is expected to collect and refer to the resources under the supervision of the leading supervisor.
